What I’m Thinking About…

Wow! It seems like forever since I’ve put pen to paper for our church’s blog. Since last I wrote, Myra and I have travelled to Florida and the Caribbean. Most of you have heard about our trip. For those that haven’t, the highlight was our celebrating 25 years of marriage. We are so thankful to the Lord for bringing us together and keeping us united. To God be the Glory!

Our trip was not the only reason for my failure to write. I have a great many things on my mind, but I have not sufficiently developed any of them to share with you. (Sometimes it’s a scary thing to be in my mind!) But, since I want you to continue this journey with me, I thought that I would at least let you know what’s occupying my gray matter.

First, some of the developments in the Southern Baptist Convention have occupied much effort. I don’t have space to share them all with you, but some sketchy events of the past twenty years have come to light. The convention is preparing to handle them, but I’m attempting to wrestle through all of the implications—legal, theological, practical—to the convention and our church.

Second, I’m spending much time examining and assessing our church’s ministries. Sunday School, small groups, missions, new members assimilation, children’s ministry, women’s ministry, men’s ministry, VBS, etc. are all vying for priority in my thinking. There’s much going on in our church, much that needs to be done, and I am begging God for wisdom on how and when to do these tasks that must be done.

Finally, beginning on June 17th, I will begin a new sermon series featuring lessons from the life of Elijah. Elijah typifies the Old Testament prophet, was the model for John the Baptizer’s ministry, and significant invitee to Jesus’ transfiguration. So, he’s kind of an important dude. I’m excited to preach it, and hope you are further conformed into the likeness of the Son through God’s word in 1 Kings.

I hope this helps you understand what I think about. I also hope this suffices as a blog post until I hammer down some of these thoughts. Until then, may God bless you as you walk with Him!

In Him,
